More about Allocations Familiales

Detailed explanations for every input, the maths behind them, and the underlying statute — hand-written, with sources cited.

How does the Allocations Familiales calculator work?

The Buronia calculator estimates your Allocations Familiales (AF) amount in real time based on the CAF rates revalued on 1 April 2026. Three inputs are enough: number of dependent children (under 20), number of children aged 14 or older, and the household's annual net taxable income.

No data is stored. Each change updates the URL with the entered parameters (e.g. ?children=3&children_14plus=1&annual_income=45000) — copy it to share. Source: Service-Public.gouv.fr — F13213.

How is the 2026 amount calculated?

Allocations Familiales are only paid from 2 dependent children upwards. The base amount (in tranche 1, i.e. modest incomes) for 2026, after the 1 April 2026 revaluation (+0.8%):

  • 2 children: 153.01 €/month
  • 3 children: 349.06 €/month
  • each additional child beyond the third: +196.04 €/month
  • uplift for each child aged 14 or older: +76.51 €/month

Income-based tranches:

  • Tranche 1 (income ≤ 75,000 € for 2 children; +7,500 € per additional child): full amount
  • Tranche 2 (75,000 – 100,000 €): amount divided by 2
  • Tranche 3 (income > 100,000 €): amount divided by 4

Example: 3 children, one aged 15, household income 60,000 € → tranche 1 → 349.06 + 76.51 = 425.57 €/month.

Who is entitled to Allocations Familiales?

Allocations Familiales are paid to any family residing in France with at least 2 dependent children under 20, with no nationality requirement (foreign nationals in regular status are entitled). Payment is not means-tested as such, but the amount is modulated by income.

The cut-off age fell from 20 to 18 for new beneficiaries with the 1 March 2026 reform — existing beneficiaries keep the old rule (up to age 20) until the right expires. The calculator applies the old threshold (≤ 20) for simplicity.

Special cases not modelled by the calculator:

  • Allocation forfaitaire (a flat-rate AF kept for 1 year for the 3rd child reaching age 20, if income is below the cap)
  • Shared custody (allocations split between the two households)
  • Children placed in institutions

How do I apply?

For new beneficiaries, the declaration is made directly on the CAF or MSA (for agricultural workers) website. In general no explicit application is needed: CAF is automatically notified of a birth or arrival of a new child if you are already a recipient.

For the 1st child, open your CAF account during pregnancy — the birth grant and PAJE start from there.

Documents to provide:

  • Birth certificate of the latest child
  • Proof of address (≤ 3 months)
  • Tax assessment for year N-2
  • Bank details (RIB) for payment

Monthly payment on the 5th of the month (for the previous month's amounts). Buronia helps you assemble the complete file — go to the Allocations Familiales overview page.

Frequently asked questions

How much do you receive for 1 child? No AF — the benefit starts from 2 children. For the 1st child, other CAF aids (PAJE, birth grant) apply.

Why does my neighbour with the same number of children get more? Probably due to income (tranche 1 vs 2 vs 3) or the age uplift (≥ 14).

What about the allocation forfaitaire? When a child reaches 20 in a family of 3+ children, CAF pays a flat-rate AF for 1 year (in 2026: ~96 €/month) to soften the loss of part of the AF. Not modelled by the calculator.

Is the calculator up to date? Yes — CAF rates revalued on 1 April 2026 (+0.8%). On future revaluations the calculator will be updated; check the publication date at the foot of the page.
