The Prestation partagée d'éducation de l'enfant (PreParE) is a monthly allowance from Caisse d'Allocations Familiales (CAF) — or MSA for the agricultural regime — payable to a parent who reduces or stops their professional activity after a birth, adoption, or fostering. The amount depends on whether the parent has stopped work entirely or moved to part-time (≤50% or 50-80% of full time), and the duration depends on the number of children — up to the child's 1st birthday for a single child, longer for two or more. PreParE can be shared between both parents to encourage paternal leave: each parent has their own quota, and the full duration is only available if both parents take a portion. Trimester-of-contribution conditions apply, with reduced thresholds for younger parents.

Eligibility

You may receive PreParE if:

  • You have at least one child under 3 (or under 20 in case of adoption)
  • You have stopped or reduced your professional activity to care for the child
  • You meet the prior-activity condition (8 trimestres cotisés in the qualifying reference period, the duration of which depends on number of children)
  • You receive — or are now eligible for — the prestation d'accueil du jeune enfant (PAJE)
  • Your household lives in France and at least one parent is in scope of CAF/MSA
